Description
Ushaiger Heritage Village, located in Najd, Saudi Arabia, is ideal for cultural explorers interested in traditional Najdi life and architecture.
Bedouins first settled here 1,500 years ago. Ushaiger became a popular stop for pilgrims traveling to Makkah because of its natural springs and olive and palm groves. The name Ushaiger, meaning 'little blonde,' refers to the nearby red mountain overlooking the yellow mud houses. A small community still lives in the village, maintaining its schools, shops, and mosques.
The village features narrow lanes leading into a living museum that reflects an ancient lifestyle. Ushaiger’s layout includes winding alleyways, shaded paths, and timber-framed walkways connecting hundreds of mud houses. The village is divided into districts and surrounded by palm groves. Notably, several houses have been beautifully restored to showcase Najdi architecture, recognizable by triangular windows, distinctive roofs, and ornately carved wooden doors, some preserving the original family names.
