Description

This tour explores Hegra (Madain Saleh), an archaeological site in AlUla, Al Madinah Region, Hejaz, Saudi Arabia. It was the Nabatean kingdom’s southernmost and largest settlement after Petra, its capital.

Madain Saleh was the first World Heritage property inscribed in Saudi Arabia. It preserves the remains of the Nabataean civilization south of Petra in Jordan.

Next, visit Elephant Rock, a natural rock formation shaped like an elephant with its trunk touching the ground, recognized as one of AlUla's prominent landmarks.

Continue to Jabal Ikmah, an open-air site with thousands of inscriptions in Aramaic, Dadanitic, Thamudic, Minaic, and Nabataean scripts. It features one of the oldest Islamic era inscriptions dating back to 24AH (644 CE).

AlUla is important for studying early Arabic language with numerous inscriptions across sites such as AlAqra’a mountain and Naqsh Zuhayr. Jabal Ikmah holds the highest concentration and variety of these inscriptions.

Located in a remote canyon valley, Jabal Ikmah is considered the largest “open library” in Saudi Arabia with inscriptions dating back to the 1st millennium BCE, reflecting AlUla’s history as a caravan crossroads.

This tour includes guided visits shared with a local expert and small groups, providing insight into the region’s ancient civilizations.
